Music has always been my close friend over the ears and it is closely affiliated to me right from my childhood. Whatsoever be the state of affairs I always find a song to be consorted with or rather to put in another way my mood does swing depending on the song I heed to. Music will always find its entry into any passions list I fill up in whatsoever profile forms I fill up.
The most recent ‘worldspace’ ad featuring Rahman was so cool and the ad doesn’t have some hi-tech gadgets throw in which confuses a commoner , the content was so soft and the theme music was depicted was very stylish and yet naturally. Rahman says there is no answer to the question “What is music?” it is just incomprehensible, but yet so lively, true to its core, its like they GOD is present everywhere, so is music.
Coming to film songs, I have no idea behind the technical’s of music or the sa re ga ma, but hope one day, though I may not master the seven strings I will definitely try to get some light on them. Like they say every food fills up your stomach but only some gives tastes and smell. Likewise there are quite a few (more) songs that impresses each and every soul. There are some songs I remember which upon hearing the very first time has impressed me like anything else. Some to list are Devathaiyai Kanden from Kadhal konden, Uyirin Uyire from Kakka Kakka, Yakkai Thiri from Ayudha Eluthu, Vaseegara from Minnale, Oru Nalil from PudhuPettai, Ennaku Ena Erkanave from Parthen Rasiten, Anbe Sugama from Parthale Paravasam,Dil Ko from RHTDM ( or ondra eranda from Kakka Kakka, but I don’t know its actually the hindi version that covered me much than the tamil, so lyrics do have some connection with the music, a very ordinary lyrics can make a good song go haywire or vice versa, they are inter-connected in some ways which I am not able to fathom completely), New York, the off late from S(J)illunu Oru Kadhal, appadi podu from Ghilli,( all of vijay’s gaana always hold a special place), Endredum Punnagai from Alaipayuthey, Oru Malai from Ghajini, kadavul Pathi from Aalavandhan, Vellai karan from Chellame, Hello Mister from Iruvar, Jay Jay from Jay Jay, Of course there are more to the list, but these are the ones which I can remember for the moment.
There are some films background score which I want to pen down are from the film Ayudha Eluthu, Rhythm, Minnale and of course AlaiPayuthe. There are some hundreds of Illayaraja’s background score which will be incomparable even down the lane. Some of his best which I like are En Eniya Pon Nilava, Pani Villum and actually list is endless.
I always like those songs by illayaraja and Harris Jeyaraj which has more of guitar domination in them, I simply don’t know the reason though.
